Surrender- Elvis Presley

The song that I just can’t get out of my head today is “surrender”.

Sung by legendary rock and roller Elvis Presley, this love song encompasses the tenderness that this artist had the ability to show. Performed as a mix between the traditional crooner style mixed with Presley’s own personal brand of the more modern rock and roll, it truly is a sign of its time. It was wind during a time of transition in music, when legends such as Sinatra and dean Martin were the staple of the day and Rock and roll had begun to gain a popular foothold amongst the nations youth. It’s songs like this that would have created a bridge between the worlds and garnered acceptance from those who may not have approved of this ‘risqué’ new style of staging.
(Interesting factoid: frank Sinatra, by then a legendary and highly respected musician, spoke in the beginning against Presley’s burlesque behaviors on stage: believing them to be the sign of a rapidly demoralizing society. Sinatra’s tune quickly changed when Presley came returned from military deployment abroad. Apparently the star had accrued respect in service to his country that lent a bending heart to the aging Sinatra (and his family as news of the day rumored Presley and franks daughter to have a blossoming romance. Unsubstantiated as it was))
